Q- How can light weights provide an effective workout?
Don’t be fooled by the light weight of a SmartBell. Even elite athletes get great full-body workouts from using them. Exercises using SmartBells are quite similar to movements in yoga, martial arts and dance as well as sports such as tennis, golf, swimming and baseball. Little or no weight is used when participating in these activities. Circular and rotational movements of the entire body work all major muscle groups inconcert. With SmartBells, you can increase strength and endurance while improving flexibility, range-of-motion and balance.
Q- How is using SmartBells different than traditional weights?
Traditional weights are lifted in linear pushing and pulling motions that isolate and strain muscles. Think about it … most people rarely use their muscles in those patterns outside the gym. And, if you isolate muscle groups, it takes a lot more time to work all of them than if you exercised many muscle groups at the same time. Progress and level of fitness is commonly measured by number of repetitions and the amount of weight that can be lifted. With this philosophy, you must take care to avoid too much stress because it can lead to injury.
SmartBells are light weights that are used to facilitate flowing circular and rotational movements that allow many muscles to work in unison for a “full-body” workout. These intelligent movements develop what has become known as “functional fitness” … in other words, muscles are developed to help one perform better in sports as well as daily activities. Rather than focus on lifting more and more weight, you use the momentum of the light weight SmartBell to flow through an endless variety of movement patterns. A single SmartBell weight can be used to warm up, work out and cool down. However, some people vary which SmartBell they use depending on their mood, exercise or fitness goals. Also, unlike traditional weights, SmartBells are fun to use with a partner or even in a group.
Q- Which SmartBell (weight) is right for me?
For most people, the standard SmartBell is a great way to start. It weighs just under 5 pounds. That’s enough weight for learning how to guide the SmartBell as you use its momentum to flow through movements. Others are more comfortable starting with one of the SmartBell Lites (about 1 ½ pounds). Many elite professional athletes use the Lite for warm-ups as well as complete workouts and sometimes use the standard SmartBell or the Pro (slightly more than 12 pounds). Don’t be fooled by the light weights. All three are great for getting and staying fit. Many of our customers buy and use both the Lite and standard SmartBell and some even purchase all three.
Q- Which muscle groups do the Core Exercises incorporate?
Our Core Exercises are designed to systematically work every major muscle group, beginning with a principal focus on the upper body, progressing towards the legs and closing with rotational movements and abdominal exercises.
Q- What is the appropriate age to exercise with SmartBells?
SmartBells users range from 5 to over 90 years old. They are wonderful for children but the child must be mature enough to use them safely and not as a “toy”.
Q- Is the SmartBells Core Exercise the only exercise I need?
No. We recommend that you diversify your exercise program by playing sports and doing aerobic activities such as running, walking and cycling. It is equally important to eat a well-balanced diet and drink plenty of water. We’re not suggesting that you should completely give up eating certain foods or drinking beverages that you enjoy but may not be considered “healthy”. But moderation is advisable.
Q- Can I use SmartBells to exercise my legs?
Yes. SmartBells lunges and Plie Squats provide excellent leg workouts. If you are already “physically fit”, you may wish to upgrade your Plie Squats to Jump Squats. Some elite athletes add Jump Squats to their exercise program to develop explosive power.
Q- Can I workout with SmartBells everyday?
Yes. In fact, we recommend that you find at least a few minutes each day to do a SmartBells workout. You will look and feel better by simply exercising for just 10 to15 minutes per day, 4 to 5 times a week.
Q- Do I have to do the SmartBells Core Exercises?
No. However, we recommend that you learn the movements in the Core Exercises. Afterwards, we encourage you to create custom workouts that are fun and focus on your personal goals.
Q- How do I clean my SmartBell?
Simply use a soft cloth and wash your SmartBell with soap and water. Do not use harsh solvents or abrasive cleaners. Towel dry.
